About Me!

For my entire life, nature has been my true passion and focus. From a young age I began to learn how to identify edible wild plants and fungus with my grandma. She would take me on long walks to pick morel mushrooms, wild rose flowers and saskatoon berries. Summers were spent on our acreage gardening and my grandparents raspberry farm. Immersed in nature, I learned how to celebrate the outdoors in a sustainable and responsible way.

I currently live on an acreage in Strathcona County, where I pass down my families knowledge and traditions to my own two, young boys. Its a wonderful feeling knowing my kids can go out into the forest and know which berries they can eat, what plants are named and what birds we see! My oldest even gave a presentation to his school for the talent show on how to grow tomatoes!

I began my artistic career as an acrylic painter, often using landscapes and florals as my inspiration. I noticed, however that I needed a change. I needed a tactile medium that would allow me to be hands on with nature. That is how I came to using moss, fungus and flowers in my artwork, just like I did with my grandma as a child. Now though, I get to use all of the amazing artistic experience and knowledge I have spent a lifetime perfecting! I'm still
 learning too!

Education

I spent five years teaching art programs for the county of Strathcona ranging from sculpture, painting and drawing inside Smeltzer House and then Galley 501. I then pursued a career in art and art education at the University of Alberta. For 12 years I was a teacher here in Edmonton, infusing my love of art and nature into my classroom daily.

Now, my focus is on my art and creating mossart and nature themed sculptors for all to enjoy! I love working with clients to create unique and custom creations using preserved moss and other natural materials I forage for.
